Q: How long does it take a department to show up in FAMS?

A: Once the department is set up in the Financial System, it will be added to FAMS during the next nightly cycle.

Q: I'm confused. There is a department in the Financial System and a department in HRMS and they aren't the same. Why are they different?

A: Department number in the Financial System represents what was referred to as Account or Area/Org in the old system. It represents where the funding is provided from for transactions. Department in HRMS represents the organizational area that is used to manage employees and is not related to the department number in the Financial System.
